Yemi Eberechi Alade who is popularly known as Yemi Alade is a daughter to a business woman, Helen Alade (Nee Uzoma) and Police officer, James Alade, she is the fifth child from a family of seven siblings in a household that is strongly connected to music. Yemi Eberechi Alade is her full name and she was born 13 March 1989. Yemi Alade is a popular Nigerian Afropop singer , dancer and songwriter who shot to lime-light after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009, and is best known for her hit single “Johnny”.

Yemi Eberechi Alade is a veteran Nigerian singer born on March 13, 1989 in Abia State, Nigeria. She is a blessing to a business woman named Helen Alade (Nee Uzoma) and Police officer called James Alade . Her father is of Yoruba origin while her mother Helen Uzoma is of Igbo origin which resulted in her being referred as “Yoruba-Igbo chick. The prolific Nigerian singer has a dual heritage of South-East Nigeria and South-West Nigeria earned her the moniker of “that Yoruba-Ibo girl. In Nigerian Music Industry today, we have a lot of Musicians who are graduates , some who didn’t even make any move towards getting proper education and some who didn’t get to complete their education but Yemi Alade is one of those few once that successfully obtained a degree from University of Lagos where she studied Geography. She started her race to the top from nowhere, she rose to fame following a participation in the maiden edition of Peak Talent Show . She scaled from 174 position to emerge winner of one of the most coveted Talent Show in the country and that was where her success story started .

Yemi Alade had her primary education at Saint Saviours British Primary School, Lagos and then Victory Grammar School, Lagos, before proceeding to the prestigious University of Lagos. Her father as a member of Nigerian Police Force has been to almost all Nigerian states which is one reason she has been to many places . She grew up in several Nigerian cities as a result of her fathers job description , he is always transferred from one state to another as a Police officer.

Yemi Alade officially started doing music in the year 2005 when she made her musical debut in an all-girl group called “Noty Spices” , but she gained recognition in 2009 after emerging the winner of the Peak Talent Show competition. After winning this competition, she went ahead to release her debut single “Fimisile” featuring eLDee under the Jus’ Kiddin’ label which graced over ten thousand hits on YouTube in barely a month . Fast forward to July 2012 , Yemi Alade released “Ghen Ghen Love” , produced by the Legendry OJB after getting signed to Effyzzie Music Group. The music video to this hit track was directed by Gambit Pictures , with the executive director Taiye Aliyu(CEO Effyzzie Music Group). In less than one month after it release, Ghen Ghen Love video recorded about 20,000 views.

Yemi Alade released the video for her romantic afro-R&B song “Bamboo” In July 2013 and was produced by almighty Fliptyce. “Bamboo” is a song that was considered moderate by music critics and it was a popular wedding song. She gained massive recognition in the last quarter of 2013 after her hit single, “Johnny”  leaked on the internet. This song produced by Selebobo became an international hit with it domination on international scene where it topped music charts in Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom, among others. In addition to this reputation, it was also listed as one of the best songs of 2013, despite the fact that it came out at the eleventh hour of the year and without a music video. Yemi Alade is one of the most popular face that has been featured on the covers of several magazines , worked and performed on big stages with local and international artistes like Mary J. Blige, Shina Peters, M.I, Wizkid, Becca, May D, Waje , Dj Spinall and Yemi Sax. Yemi Alade was also given the opportunity to perform at the Super Diva’s Nite at the 2013 Calabar Festival, and she opened for the 2013 Headies Awards (one of the biggest award in Nigeria popularly referred to as the “Nigerian Grammys”).

The physically endowed Nigerian singer teamed up with M.I, Waje, Timi Dakolo, and Burna Boy in singing the theme song for Port Harcourt, the UNESCO 2014 World Book Capital, which is a project initiated to urge young people to embrace education. Sonn after, she released a new single entitled “Tangerine”, featuring Selebobo. The song enjoyed massive air-wave across Africa .

Yemi Alade who is widely said to be the queen of afro-pop currently have two albums , she released her first album titled , “King of Queens” on 2 October 2014 before going for a tour. She also went ahead to release another studio album titled “Mama Africa”, in March 2016 making it two studio albums . She disclosed that her hit song “Johnny” earned her unimaginable fame in Nigerian and outside Nigeria. Where ever she goes she is always asked questions about her Johnny song;

It still seem like yesterday to me when Selebobo introduced her on her hit song “Johnny”, all thanks to him for being there for her all these years and i think this young man deserves gratitude from the singer.

Yemi Alade has been dating her managing for quit some time now, but she is rumoured to have parted ways with her lover, Taye Aliyu following irreconcilable differences. According to an insider, the lovers ended their relationship due to disagreements over money and jealousy issues.
