Early Life And Background
Joseph van Vicker whose stage name is van Vicker was born to a Ghanaian/Liberian mother and a Dutch father on 1 August 1977. The handsome actor lost his father at his early age when he was only six years old. The famous actor once revealed in an interview that he is a global citizen owing to the fact that he has travelled round the world with his mother after his father died. Van Vicker was bred all over the world by his mother. Due to the early death of his father Vicker has stated that he is very close to his mother and considers her his hero.
Van Vicker attended Mfantsipim School, along with fellow actor Majid Michel. Mfantsipim is also the alma mater of former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. The gorgeous actor rose to fame when nobody expected, it all happened like an accident. He started out in the entertainment world in radio and as a television personality.
Van Vicker didn’t really have any plans to become an actor, he kicked started his entertainment career in radio as a presenter at Groove 106.3 fm (1999–2000) & Vibe 91.9fm (2001–04) and as a television personality for TV3 Ghana (1997–99) & Metro TV (2000–04), soon after he appeared in the Ghanaian television series Suncity, which depicted university life. In the television series, Van played the character of LeRoy King, Jr, a fine arts student born in the U.S. who arrives at Suncity to complete his education.
He officially launched his Ghollywood career in a movie titled “Divine Love” where he played a supporting character. The same movie was also the debut roles for fellow actors Jackie Aygemang and Majid Michel who were cast in the female and male lead respectively which happened coincidentally. Van Vicker is widely known for playing romantic lead role in movies and he often play it with some selected actress like Jackie Aygemang and Nadia Buari . He has acted along side other actors like Majid Michel, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Ike to name a few.
He started his acting career officially in the Ghanaian Movie industry and later joined Nollywood . He has been featured in several Nollywood films alongside prominent Nollywood actors, including Tonto Dikeh, Mercy Johnson, Stephanie Okereke, Chika Ike and Jim Iyke. He has appeared in over 150 movies both Ghollywood and Nollywood movies.
Aside movie acting, he is also involved in other areas like movie directing. Vicker has directed, starred in, and produced five films under his sky + Orange Productions since 2008. In 2012, he earned himself the NAFCA Best Actor and Director Awards for his comedy Joni Waka. He has been nominated for and won numerous awards from Africa to the Caribbean.

He owns and runs “Sky & Orange”, an advertising agency and event management company; “Babetown”, a unisex barber shop; and the Van Vicker Foundation, an outreach program for up coming young artists. He enjoys shooting pool, Soccer, Tennis, and Basketball. He was the first runner up in a Basketball Slam Dunk competition in 1997. He also played College Basketball and Pro Basketball for the Shepherds.
