Born Livingstone Etse Satekla better known as Stonebwoy, is a Ghanaian afropop, dancehall and reggae artiste. His parents welcomed him to this world on Saturday 5th March 1988 in Ashaiman. Stonebwoy hails from the Anloga, Volta Region of Ghana as the 4th child of 7 siblings.
Stonebwoy is the CEO of Burniton Music Group. He is a multiple award winning Ghanaian musician , he won Best International Act in 2015 : Africa at the 2015 BET Awards and Artist of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards. He is one of the big pillars that holds Ghanaian Music Industry and many Ghanaian recognize him as one of the leading Reggae and Dancehall artists in the country. Stonebwoy is a Ghanaian based musician who specialised in Dancehall, Reggae, Afrobeats genres but has featured on Afropop, R&B and Hip-Life tracks due to his versatility.
Stonebwoy Burniton is a talented songwriter, singer and performer. He initially started of by working with S24 Studios, Samini Music, High Grade Family and Asasease Music. He is currently not signed up to a Record Label; his career is presently being managed by his own Burniton Music Group (BMG) (Ghana and UK).
Early Life And Education
Satekla aka Stonebwoy was born in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region of Ghana and began making music in his early school days. He did his secondary school at Methodist Day Secondary School the same year with rapper Sarkodie, where he obtained his High School Leaving Certificate. Thereafter, he enrolled into University of Professional Studies where he bagged a degree in Marketing in 2013. Rounding up his education, Stonebwoy realised his talents and abilities as a lyricist and script writing. Meanwhile he started writing and acting drama when he was still in primary school. Since then he has never stopped singing both songs that he has written and composed and those by artists he is influenced by.
He ventured into music in his secondary school days and professionally started performing as Stonebwoy in high school as an underground rapper. His family motivated and supported him to pursue his dream career because they believed his destiny was leading him somewhere that will benefit him . The same motivation from his family made him participate on a popular rap competition “Kasahare Level” on Adom FM which featured Sarkodie, Dr Cryme and the like saw him knocking out several other rappers gaining himself underground popularity.
Stonebwoy released his first radio track “Makuma” (My Heart) in his second year at Tema Methodist Senior High School and several others hit the airwaves that same year. He becoming popular as an underground rapper and this convinced him to release another track titled “Empress” which held him up even after leaving school in 2007.
He was able to gain recognition through these rap battles and caught the attention of Samini who signed him to his “Samini Music” record label. After getting signed to “Samini Music” he released his debut song titled “Climax” featuring Samini and subsequently “Ghetto Love” featuring Irene Logan. Both songs earned him nominations at the Ghana Music Awards.
Stonebwoy released three new singles off his album featuring Irene Logan “Ghetto Love”, Edem “Above The Sky” and Tinny “Onumadé” which was well-received and got a lot of airplay, not just in Ghana but in Europe, especially in Spain and Italy. He finally released his much awaited debut album “Grade 1” on 6th March 2012 in conjunction with Ghana’s 56th Independence Day and his birthday weekend under Samini Music imprint . This time he has already became popular and a famous brand in Ghanaian Music Industry. Undoubtedly , Stonebwoy is a household name in the music industry and he signed a deal with VP Africa a division of VP Records in 2015 which is another progress for him.

Stonebwoy often ragga in Jamaican Patois (Patwa or Patwah), and is considered a “multifaceted rapper” due to the various musical styles he possess. In 2015, he received many awards and nominations ranging from “Artist of the Year” to “Album of the Year”. His sophomore album, Necessary Evil, was the recipient of 3 Ghana Music Awards from 6 nominations. He brands himself with the baritone music descant – ‘BHIIM!’ – which has gradually caught the lips of most of his fans in the world.
