Mr Nkem Owoh who is better known as Osuofia or Ukwu is a Nigerian actor , musician and comedian. He is a veteran Nollywood actor who is widely regarded as one of the funniest actor and he has been able to make a lot of money from his acting career. Early Life And Background

Nkem Owoh aka Ukwa was on February 7, 1958, in Enugu State, Nigeria precisely in Amagu Village, Udi Town. The actor who is currently 57 years old had his Primary and Secondary Education in Nsukka . After completing his basic education, he proceeded to University of Ilorin and studied engineering.

He also studied at Institute of Management Technolgy(IMT), Enugu where he also bagged a degree. He officially started acting in various television and film productions while he was still in the university but dedicated his time for acting fully after he completed his studies.


Nkem Owoh had his first taste of acting during his Primary and Secondary school days when they used to act a play to entertain themselves during social/school events. He had passion for acting right from that time and knew that he had a talent in acting. He is respected by his counterparts in the Movie Industry because he has his own unique way of interpreting his roles which many don’t seem to understand .

Nkem Owoh rose to fame after starring in a popular movie titled Ukwa where he started with a fellow Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor and Patience Ozokwor. He also went ahead to star in a 2003 film titled Osuofia in London, where he played a village man who managed to find his way to London after the death of his wealthy brother. Owoh has acted in more than 150 movies and he is still doing what he knows how to best best and not considering taking a break soon. He has also been featured on some music videos where he also displayed his funny humor.

He is also popular for his funny song “I Go Chop Your Dollar” which was heard in all homes in those days. The song was featured in the film The Master in which Owoh plays a scammer. After making waves on radio and Tv stations it was later banned by The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission as a result of it’s unconventional message which shouldn’t be encouraged.

Fast forward to the year 2007 , the I Go Chop Your Dollar crooner was arrested in Amsterdam, Netherlands (Bijlmermeer neighborhood in the Amsterdam Zuidoost borough) and it was as the result of a seven month investigation by the Dutch police dubbed “Operation Apollo”. The famous actor was arrested while performing a musical show, he was unfortunately found in an event which was a target for Netherlands police on the suspicion of lottery fraud and immigration violations.

They ended up arresting 111 people found on the location but he was later released.

Nkem Owoh Was Once Kidnapped

In November 2009 Owoh was kidnapped by some unkwown gun men in eastern Nigeria. The kidnappers demanded a fiteen million naira ransom for his release. He was later released after his family members allegedly paid a ransom fee of 1.4 million naira according to insider.

Personal Life: Wife And Children

Nkem Owoh is married to Ngozi Nkem Owoh, they tied the knot in 1998. The couple is blessed with two daughters. There has been this common misconception about Nkem Owoh and Chinwe Owoh , they are rumored to be married but when we contacted Nkem he said they are just in-laws and nothing like getting married .
