We want to use this opportunity to write about the biography of one of the most talked about South African actor Naymaps Maphalala which is a quest to reveal some lesser known facts about the Tv personality.

Born Naymaps Nkosinathi Maphalala also known as Naymaps Maphalala as his stage name unlike some folks who prefer to change their name after launching their acting career. The young man is a South African actor best known for his role as Mxolisi Zulu on Uzalo (SABC1 drama Series). In the movie he played the role of an unwilling hero who has to go on a journey of discovery from being a good boy to being the leader of his father’s criminal syndicate.

Before his acting career became prominent, he had already played a guest role as Tshepo on Mzansi Magic soapie opera Isibaya in 2014. This was prior to his time that he was given his role in the movie that brought his name to lime-light. The following year which is 2015, the young actor Naymaps landed a role on SABC1 drama series Uzalo as Mxolisi Zulu and from that point it has been up, up and up for the screen prince.

His television acting debut was a guest starring role as Tshepo in the second season of the Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya, in 2014.

In a recent chat with the prolific actor , here is what the discussion was all about;

How did you get the role on Uzalo?

The journey has been amazing right from the beginning, at the audition phase. I auditioned while I was still presenting Hashtag on DStv. I waited six hours before auditioning, and I got a callback. I went back and all they said at the end of my audition was “thank you”. I was told that I’d got the part only six months later – the longest six months of my life!

There’s nothing as beautiful as doing what you love, something you’ve been wanting to happen for over five years but didn’t happen. I guess it goes to show that God’s timing is everything!

My first experience of acting came through TV commercials, which is how I got into the industry. I then went into TV presenting and after that, I got a cameo in IsiBaya for about two episodes. I played the character of Tshepo. That was in the interim, while I was waiting for my call from Uzalo after the auditions. Then came Uzalo, which is my biggest acting job so far, and I’m so grateful.

What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learnt on your journey in entertainment?

I’ve realised now more than ever how important the principles that my mother and father instilled in me are – I’ve been reminded of that in this industry. I’ve seen people who I work with being written out because of certain character elements, and I’ve observed and learnt, “Ah, so that means I shouldn’t do that.”

What other interests do you have outside of acting and singing?

I just launched a clothing line in Durban called Nay Maps Clothing. I’m still finalising the nitty-gritty on how to get it to people in other provinces. It’s something I’ve been working on for the past two years.

And I love travelling. At this point in my life, I’m making it a point to travel more.
