Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade better known as Mr Eazi (stage name) , is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur currenly signed to Wizkid’s Starboy Record . Mr Eazi’s music style is best describe as Banku Music, a fusion sound he seen as the mixture of “Ghanaian bounces, Ghanaian high-life, Nigerian chord progressions, and Nigerian patterns”.
Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade staged named Mr Eazi is a Nigerian but relocated to Ghana, Kumasi in 2008 and enrolled at KNUST, where he began booking artists to perform at college parties. He fall in love with music after recording a guest verse on “My Life”, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST. in July 2013, Mr Eazi released his debut mixtape, About to Blow, thereafter his chat-topping track “Skin Tight” was released in the year 2015. The Nigerian who prefer to reside permanently in Ghana was signed to Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment in May 2016 under which his second mixtape, Accra to Lagos, was released on 10 February 2017.
Mr Eazi was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He attended primary and secondary school in Lagos. But he moved to Ghana in 2007 for University. He moved to Ghana for his University because he has extended family in Ghana; this was partly the reason why he relocated to Kumasi.
Early Life And Career Awakening
Mr Eazi was born in Port Harcourt, the capital and largest city in Rivers State, Nigeria. His father is a pilot why his mother is a business woman that own a small business in their home town. His father who has an entrepreneurial skills thought it wise to establish his own private aviation consulting practice. While he was in school , he was among the school choir which is where is singing started from . He always listen to song his father play for the family especially during breakfast. When he clocked 16 years , he relocated to Kumasi to further his educational endeavors. He then enrolled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and studied mechanical engineering. He also contributed in the release of the track “My Life”, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST. Before this time, he established a party and promotion company called Swagger Entertainment. This platform was an initiative to start booking shows and promote events on the campus of KNUST.
At the age of 23 , he came back to his father’s land Nigeria and started his own e-commerce platform. In a recent chat with The Guardian newspaper he disclosed that he briefly worked for Schlumberger when he returned to Nigeria. He also revealed to the newspaper that his business ventures included soft drinks import, gold mining, and food distribution. He ventured into six businesses . Things started to fall apart in his promotion business because the event he promoted was a failure after an artist failed to show up . His heart was broken and he decided to quite his club promoting business to face his music career fully and professionally.
At a point in his life , he finally realized that his future was in music after he got the opportunity to record for free in the PeeWee and KluMonsta producers’ studio. It was the time when his first single was able to shine and heard around Ghana and other neighboring country. The single was called ‘Pipi Dance’. This time he deciding to keep recording songs at a studio called ‘About To Blow’ and never knew his fate has something related to that studio name. He continued releasing Mixtapes and they were mostly produced by KluMonsta. One official single, ‘Bankulize’, was produced by UK based DJ Juls. This track featured Pappy Kojo.
He also released other nice songs like ‘Skin Tight’ and ‘Hollup’ which which was accepted reaching 400,000 views on YouTube after few days of release. At this time it became obvious that he has come to stay , Wizkid’s StarBoy Worldwide label signed the internationally performing artist .
His collaborations with Eugy, a British-Ghanaian artist paved way for him in the industry as he was becoming known all over the world this time not just Nigeria and Ghana alone. Fast forward to year 2016, they released ‘Dance For Me’. This big hit is did very well for them locally and internationally. It reached 117,000 plays on Soundcloud within 10 days. His mixtapes are quite popular across the continent. He also has big collaboration with Sarkodie, X.O Senavoe, Pappy Kojo and Stardo Karle.
In 2016, Mr Eazi was disqualified from the Vodafone Ghana Music Award because he’s not Ghanaian by blood.
In an interview he had with Pulse TV’s “One On One”, the multiple award winning artiste revealed that, though he is a proud Nigerian, but prefer spending his time in Ghana and Kumasi , a city situated in Ghana. He always travels between Nigeria and Ghana at the moment for both Music, Business, and Family purpose.
