Born Iniobong Edo Ekim better known as Ini Edo, is a prominent Nigerian actress who has spent over 14 years in Nigerian Movie industry.  She officially dived into Nollywood  in 2000, and has starred in over 100 movies since that time. Early Life , Background, Childhood And Education

Iniekim Edo or Iniobong Edo Ekim  is a famous Nigerian actress born on April 19, 1982 in Calabar, Cross River state, into a family of four.  Ini Edo   is an  Ibibio from Akwa Ibom state in the south-south part of Nigeria, not far from Calabar.  Her biological mother is a teacher  and her father is an active elder in their church.  The Nollywood actress was raised by her disciplinarian father .  She completed her secondary school education at Cornelius Connely College in Calabar . She graduated from the University of Uyo where she got a Diploma in Theatre Arts.  She also obtained her bachelor’s degree program at the University of Calabar where she studied English.  She was given a  scholarship to study law at National Open University of Nigeria in the year 2014.

She grew up not seeing herself becoming an actress, she was rather preparing herself to become a lawyer or maybe another professional field  . As at that time, Nollywood wasn’t part of the plan but she found herself acting in firms after one thing lead to another.  According to the Nollywood diva, she starting her acting career was so cool but the problem was getting her father play along with her chosen career.  her father was not so pleased, not at first. He wanted her to get her degree first. And besides, she was just 19 at the time, a young woman. When she started acting in movies, she had to move to the city where she knew no one , her father was afraid that some heartless folks might take advantage of his daughter.

As God would have it, things didn’t go that way for her, movie directed saw her talent and one particular producer was  interested in her , he took her under his wing and looked out for her like a father. And she did get her degree too, from the University of Calabar, though it was not easy to juggle acting with her studies. While some up and coming actress resorted to sleeping with producer to get movie roles , she was of  a different idea because her talent spoke for her in the movie industry.

She revealed in a recent chat that  she grew up in a strict home in the midst of three siblings; three girls and one boy. She studied Theatre Arts at the University of Uyo where she earned a Diploma. After that, she also studied English at the University of Calabar. She gained recognition after starring in the film ‘Child of Destiny’. She was also one of the famous cast in the movie ‘World Apart’(2004). The Nollywood actress has also featured in more than 100 films including  ‘Games women Play’ Games Men Play , the sequel ‘Reloaded’ to name a few

Movie Career

Ini Edo started her movie career in  2003 with her debut in “Thick Madam”.  The Nollywood iron lady was discovered by a producer at the audition she attended.  Her breakthrough came in 2004 when she acted in World Apart. Up to now she has appeared in over 100 films, she is one of the highest-profile actresses in Nigeria and Africa in general.  She has become one of the highly sought after and one of the top paid female actresses in Nollywood today.

The Actress  made her production debut in 2010 when she co-produced and starred in a film, ‘Memories of my Heart’ with Emem Isong . She is well recognised by  top brands in the Nigerian Industry and is currently and Ambassador to a couple of well known Beauty, Telecom and Food Industry. She also have other deals with brands like  GLOBACOM , Chivita and was also appointed United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy.

Ini Edo’s entered into the foray way back in 2000 while she was still in university. She  featured in about 30 movies in 2007 alone just few years into her professional movie career.   Starting her movie career was very challenging because her father wasn’t in support of the idea.  Her father wanted her to complete her education first before trying out any other thing .

Ini Edo was previously married to a man named  Philip Ehiagwina, a businessman. Some popular faces that was present  in the big wedding ceremony include Nollywood actress Rita Dominic and several others. After breaking up with Philip Ehiagwina, she went ahead to marry another man who was based in America, in Houston, Texas and she also left the marriage after some time.  Her former husband Ehiagwina has previously married to a woman named Ruth Okoro, a Nigerian-American model and actress  .  Ini officially called it a wrap with her  husband Mr.Philip Ehiagwina In October 2014  on the ground of unfaithfulness .

Meanwhile, many claimed Ini Edo stole her husband from his former wife, Ruth Okoro. She later tagged this claim as false because she revealed that she wasn’t aware of his marriage to the aforementioned lady.

The top actress was also rumoured to have been involved in lesbiänism scandal alongside her colleague actress Tonto Dikeh in 2011 which they later debunked. The two was also accused of getting drunk and doing crazy things on stage in an event.  The Nollywood princess was also involved in adultery scandal in 2014 which led to the end of her marriage. She was also rumoured to be in a serious relationship with Nollywood actor Michael Godson.

Ini Edo has been appointed as the Special Assistant To The Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture And Tourism by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in 2016 .
