Humblesmith whose real name is Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba, is a Nigerian afropop recording artist who rose to fame upon the release of his single titled “Osinachi”, which later earn a nomination spot at the 2016 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

The handsome young man is an actor turned musician. He launched his entertainment career as an actor starring in a number of films including Hypertension (2010) with Sam Loco Efe.

Early Life And Background

Humblesmith was born May 14, 1991 in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state in Nigeria. He is the fifth child out of the eight children by his parents. His father was was a stations dealer while his mom was a teacher. At the age of seven, he to discover his talent and passion for singing and made up his mind to venture into entertainment as soon as he become of age. As a result of his passion for singing, he listened to some songs by Bright Chiemeize, he inspired him into singing.

When he newly started his singing career , he chosed the stage name Humblesmart but later changed at a ceremony to Humblesmith. It happened when the MC at a social function introduces him mistakenly as Humblesmith and he decided to adopted the name because he feels the name sounded good or better than the other one he used.

According to the “Osinachi crooner, growing up was very tough and challenging for the him because he was not born with a silver spoon unlike many singers like Davido, Naeto C, and the rest of them, his family was so poor that they were not able to afford feeding and some other important things that makes life good. The only way to go was to hustle for extra income for the family. That was when they resorted to hawking Moi Moi at a certain time through primary and secondary school. Despite coming from a poor family, their parents bred them very well and taught them so many things about life and one of them was that they should not depend on anybody .

When he started musical career newly, they performed at various social and church events and they became popular in their locality. He teamed up with friends and formed a dancing and singing group and they called the group “American Boys”. As time went on, he continued to receive special attention and attraction as people began to see his talents.

We gathered that he completed his secondary school education in 2008, and relocated to Asaba, Delta State, to pursue a role in the movie industry where he made his Nollywood debuted ‘Hypertension’ featuring Mr. Ibu and late Sam Loco.

Musical Career

When he completed his secondary education and traveled to Asaba City, upon arriving in Asaba City, Humblesmith had to take up menial jobs in order to earn a living. He decided to try himself in the entertainment as an actor and appeared in various films including Hypertension with Sam Loco Efe. As a result of the hard life he faced in Asaba City, he returned to Ebonyi State at some point and then back to Delta State again to focus on a career in music.

When he finally came back to Delta State again, he was very determined this time and well prepared to overcome any situation life may throw at him. This time, he started scouting for shows and performed for free until he was signed by “DG Records” who were impressed with one of his several performances. He later left Asaba City for Lagos State where he recorded his debut single “Chairmoo” in 2014. The following year, he released “Osinachi”, a chart-topping single that featured Phyno. He wasn’t satisfied with the position the song pegged on music charts, he decided to do a remix of the song and featured Davido in the new version.

His “Osinachi” song earned him a nomination in the “Best New Act” category at the 2016 edition of the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and was also nominated in the “Hottest Single” category at the same event. The same year 2016, he featured Flavour N’abania in a song titled “Jukwese” , a song that enjoyed massive airplay in Nigeria and other African countries.

Just after releasing the song “Jukwese”, he launched an Instagram competition tagged the “#JukweseContest” in reference to the song, with a $2,000 prize money for the winner.
