Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde better known as Funke Akindele, is a comic Nigerian actress and firm producer born and bred in Lagos , Nigeria. She shot into stardom after featuring in popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) sponsored drama; I Need to Know, which was alive from 1998 to 2002. She played a lead role in the hit TV show Jenifa’s Diary, alongside Fisayo Ajisola, Falz, Juliana Olayode, Lolo and more. Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde is her real name but she more popular with the name, Jenifa or Funke Akindele. She was born on August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. She is currently 41 years old as her 42 birthday is going to be on 24th August. She is the second of 3 children (two girls and one boy). Her mother is a medical doctor while her father is a retired school principal . She attended Ogun State Polytechnic where she obtained Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication now called Moshood Abiola Polytechnic . Thereafter, she got a Law degree from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba (UniLag).

Acting Career

She launched her career as a TV presenter and officially became known after featuring in a popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) sponsored family television program; I Need To Know. This television program was aired from 1998 to 2002. Funke played the role of Bisi, a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student , she was still very much small as at that time.

Funke left Television for Cinema and has featured in numerous Nollywood movies (mostly Yoruba) as a producer, an actress and writer. In 2009, she produced a record breaking movie titled Jenifa which she later recreated as Return of Jenifa and now as Jenifa’s Diary. Funke Akindele has over a 100 movies to her credit as actress, writer and producer.

Her movie “Jenifa” earned four nominations at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2008 and won for her the best actress in the African Movie Academy Award in 2009.

Funke Ayotunde Akindele is also into charity initiative, she owns a charity organisation called THE JENIFA FOUNDATION, it’s a non-governmental organization whose aims and objectives are nurturing talents and acquiring vocational skills.

They legally tied the knot in May 2016 and it took place in London.
