Falz is a Nigerian rapper, actor, and songwriter who started pursuing his dream career while in secondary school after forming a group called “The School Boys” with his friend . His professional career as a music artiste began properly and professionally in 2009. He became known as an upcoming Nigerian rapper after his song titled “Marry Me” with guest appearance from Poe and Yemi Alade won him a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of The Year” category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. The ace rapper was also nominated in the “Best Rap Act of The Year” and “Best New Act to Watch” categories at the same event.

Early Life End Education

Falz was born in Lagos State, South-Westen Nigeria on October 27, 1990 to renowned lawyers Femi and Funmi Falana. Falz was born into a family of three children. The rapper completed his basic and secondary school education at St. Leo’s Catholic Primary School, Ikeja and Olashore International School, Osun State respectively. He traveled to United Kingdom to study law at the University of Reading, he moved back to Nigeria after completing his course to attend law school . He was called to bar in February 2012. Falz fell in love with music back in his secondary school days when he met a friend of his who writes rap lyrics before they formed a little group ‘The School Boys’.

Career Beginnings And Shakara: The Mixtape

His career in music started while he was in secondary school . He formed a music group with a friend called “The School Boys”. He joined the choir in church and released a mixtape in 2009 which was a compilation of all his work just to get his name on the board . After that, he released about five singles and a mixtape titled Shakara.

In 2011, Falz released a single titled “Waz Up Guy” , thereafter he went on to release other tracks like “High Class” ,”Currency” which gained him grounds in the Nigerian music industry. In 2014, he was listed in tooXclusive’s “Artistes To Watch in 2014”. On 31 January 2015, he released a single titled “Ello Bae” which earned him a nomination in the “Best Street Hop Artiste of The Year” category at The Headies 2015. On 3 November 2015, he announced the release of his second studio album titled Stories That Touch which was later released on 17 November 2015.

The following year was a huge success for him as he kept winning in all areas, he won “Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series” at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for his role as Segun in Funke Akindele’s TV series Jenifa’s Diary. Also in June of 2016, he was crowned the winner of the “Viewer’s Choice Best New International Act” category at the 2016 BET Awards.

Chemistry With Simi , a 7-track EP

On October 27, 2016, with a collaborative effort with Simi, the two who are always seen together jointly released Chemistry, a 7-track EP solely produced by Sess. The EP was released after they did “Jamb Question” and “Soldier” .

In a recent chat with the funny rapper, he described his style of music as “Wahzup music”. His style of music is the fusion of comic lyrics with the contemporary hip-hop in a faux Yoruba accent. He became popular on Instagram after uploading his funny ‘ello bae‘ skits, but says he is not a comedian.

However, he has made it known that he has passion for film, adding that acting is something he would probably do sooner than later. He has plans to establish his own TV show. He currently owns an independent record label called Bahd Guys Records.

Falz disclosed that he has a shy personality in reality. He’s not very comfortable in the spotlight under the prying eyes of the press. Instead, he uses an alter ego “UncleTaju” who is the bolder and crazy him on stage.
