Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is a Nigerian politician and lawyer. He is currently the Governor of Rivers State. The dogged man is also known variously as Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike or Nyesom Wike.
He hails from Ikwerre , Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State. He is a bona fide and active member of the People’s Democratic Party PDP.
Early Life And Background
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike who is also popularly known as Governor Wike was born on August 24, 1967 to Reverend and Mrs Nlemanya in Obio Akpor. He is a famous Nigerian lawyer and politician from Eumuepirikom in Obio, River State, Nigeria.
Chief (Barrister) Nyesom Ezenwo had his primary and secondary school education in Rivers State, Nigeria. After obtaining his senior secondary school leaving certificate (SSCE), he proceeded to Rivers State University of Science and Technology to bag a degree in Political and Administrative Studies as well as Law. His political career kicked started after getting his university certificate.
After a brief stint with private legal practice, he got an appointment as the Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area where he served his two terms in office from 1999 to 2002 and 2004 to 2007. We are not forgetting that he also served as Deputy President, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, he was also appointed as the President of ALGON in year 2004. Chief E.N. Wike represented Africa as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Local Governments Forum.
He was appointed Minister of State for Education on 14 July 2011. From there, he became the Acting Minister of Education, after Mrs Riqqayatu was sacked but resigned before finishing his term to pursue his Governorship ambition . He was later replaced by Viola Onwuliri.
His efforts was well recognised by stakeholders within and beyond the shores of Nigeria during his time as a Minister. Wike was conferred with;

- Award for Africa to recognize his roles in the creation of quality access for Nigeria Children.
Wike fortunately emerged the winner of the Rivers State People’s Democratic Party primary in 2014 and he picked former Secretary to the State Government Ipalibo Banigo as his running mate for the position of deputy governor who will serve beside him when he becomes the governor.
On December 8, 2014, PDP Delegates from all the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State unanimously voted for Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2015 election in the state. He is one man that the people of River State believe so much in because they have they trust in him that he will take the state to the right place.

After the 2015 election, Wike was fortunate enough to defeat Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the April 11 gubernatorial elections to emerge as governor of Rivers State, Nigeria.
Rivers State Election Tribunal Against Him
On May 13, 2015, the Election Tribunal for Rivers State, sitting in Abuja, commenced the hearing on the election of Nyesom Wike after Dr Dakuku Peterside of APC seek tribunal to nullify the election of Nyesom Wike of the PDP who was declared winner as governor in the April 11, 2015 election held in River State. He pushed this motion on the ground that Wike used malpractices and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act to win the election.
The incumbent Governor Wike, opposed the hearing of the case in Abuja and politely suggested that the Tribunal should be held in Port Harcourt. The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachawa, didn’t throw weight at his arguments and ordered that the tribunal be held in Abuja, for security reason .
The case later led to something that wasn’t expected. The River State governorship election tribunal nullified the election of Mr Nyesom Wike on October 24, 2015. A rerun of the governorship election was ordered by the election tribunal in Rivers State within 90 days immediately after the day of judgment and Wike appeal the ruling of the tribunal.
After all said and done, Wike prevailed as the Governor of River state.
