SAD NEWS: Ghanaian dancehall artist Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng popularly known by her stage name Ebony Reigns is dead. Reports reaching us indicate that “Sponsor” hitmaker Ebony has died in a car accident while returning to Accra from Sunyani. She died while coming back from Sunyani after a visit and got involved in a gory car accident and died at the Bechem Government Hospital.

She died following a head collision with a VIP bus at Nyamebekyere near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South, a district in the Ashanti Region on Thursday. Reports states that they were three conveyed in the an audio car, they were returning from Kumasi-based Ultimate FM . Amongst them is a military officer and a young girl in her mid fifteens also died in the ghastly accident involving the black Jeep car of the musician and the VIP bus at about 11Pm on Thursday.

According to eye eyewitness ;

“No one in the bus was dead or injured but occupants of the Jeep vehicle were hurt. The passengers told us the accident involved another car and that a soldier and a small girl were trapped in the vehicle. We called fire service from Bechem and when they came they were incapacitated so they relied on their colleagues in Sunyani who managed to open the mangled vehicle before they could retrieve the bodies. I saw her she was the Ebony we know”

The Divisional Commander of Mankranso, DSP John Adusei, confirmed the accident to BioNetworth, he revealed that the Ghanaian dancehall artist was on her way from Sunyani where, “at the intersection of the road between the Nsuta and Bechem junction, [her car] collided with a VIP bus which was also coming from Kumasi towards the Sunyani direction.”

She was born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng but widely recognised by her stage name Ebony (Reigns), was a Ghanaian dancehall/Afrobeats artist widely known for her hit songs “Poison” and “Kupe” . She lived a normal street life until she was discovered by Bullet, a member of Ruff n Smooth fame. Ebony was born and bred in Accra, Ghana, (Born 16 February 1997) Miss Reigns attended Method Girls’ at Mamfe in the Akuapim North District of the Eastern Region before dropping out in 2015 to peruse her passion for music full time.

Career Beginning And Rise To Fame

Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng aka Ebony stated her professional music career after being discovered by renowned musician and entrepreneur Bullet of Ruff n Smooth fame . This happened after she sent a recording of her voice and was signed to his Rufftown record label just a day after listening to the recording. She released her debut single into her professional music career titled “Dancefloor” in December 2015 accompanied with a video and audio . The critically acclaimed song became an instant hit as it enjoyed massive airplay landing her nomination for the unsung category at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards.

Fast forward to March 2016, the young songer released her major hit single “Kupe”, which is one of the most popular song in Ghana today, “Kupe” is a household anthem in Ghana and some other African countries.

The following year, in January 2017 ‘EBony reinforced and came out with colorful new visuals for her new song titled “Poison’’ (which has gained over 480,000 YouTube streams) the song, which premiered live on one of Africa’s leading radio stations (LIVE FM), has a cool dancehall and R&B feel with the visuals portraying just that! The video was shot in various locations throughout Dubai and was directed by Yaw Skyface.

On the 31st of May 2017, Ruff Town Records & Midas Touch Inc Independently launched Ebony’s 4th official project ‘Sponsor’ co-written by Ricky Agyemang (Bullet) performed in Patios, English and Twi (local Ghanaian language) the upbeat Afro-Dancehall song which was recorded at AVO Studios (Ghana), and mastered by UBEATZ is produced by Wills Beats details the use and benefits of having a sugar daddy and an ‘extra man’ accompanied by some sleek 4k visuals shot across Ghana’s capital city Accra.
