Born David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known by his stage name Davido, is an American-born Nigerian singer, song writer, performer and record producer. The pop singer was born on November 21, 1992 and he became popular after the released of his 2011 single “Dami Duro” which shot him to limelight. “Dami Duro” was well-received throughout Nigeria and Africa at large and game him fame so fast.

Davido along side his elder brother Adewale Adeleke were the co-owner of HKN Music (a record label home to Sina Rambo, B. Red and DeeKay). After some years they dissolved the record label and he went ahead to establish his own label called “Davido Music Worldwide”. He has produced songs for Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage and Sauce Kid. In April 2012, he signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria. On October 23, 2013, Davido partnered with Guinness Nigeria for the “Guinness World of More” concert. After few years into the array of his music career , Davido have made himself one of the biggest artists to ever come out of Africa. David Adedeji Adeleke signed a global deal with Sony Music in 2016 but left because he wasn’t able to succeed in the international scene . He decided to leave Sony Music so that he could focus on his local career by pleasing his African fans.

He announced to the general public that he signed a record deal with Sony Music in January 2016. The young star Davido Adeleke is from Nigeria but was born in Atlanta, Georgia before relocated to Lagos at a young age. Early Life And Background

David Adeleke (born November 21, 1992), is popularly called by his stage name Davido, he was born and bred in Atlanta, Georgia but they relocated to Lagos when he was still young . His father is Chief Deji and his mother is Vero Adeleke and they both resided in Atlanta, Georgia back in the days. Davido’s father is a Nigerian business magnate and his late mother was a university lecturer. His mother Dr Vero Adeleke passed away in 2003 before he relocated to Lagos, Nigeria. He attended the British International School in Lagos. Davido studied Business Administration at Oakwood University prior to relocating to Nigeria. He officially started doing music during his time at Oakwood University . He bought musical equiptments and started making beats, in addition to recording vocal references.

He was withdraw from Oakwood University when he started getting bad grades and relocated to London, where he focused more of his energy towards vocals as opposed to production. He returned back to his father’s land Nigerian in 2011, this time his father insisted he must go to school . He honor his father wish by enrolling at Babcock University and sidelining his music career for some time. In July 2015, Davido graduated with a degree in Music from Babcock after his father paid the university to erect a music department for an inaugural class of one.

2011–2012:Omo Baba Olowo

Davido started working on his debut album in 2011. On May 7, 2011, Davido produced and released his first musical recording “Back When“. The song served as the album’s lead single and received frequent airplay. The music video for the single, uploaded onto YouTube on May 9, 2011, was shot and directed in Nigeria by Clarence Peters. “Dami Duro” was released on October 30, 2011 and was co-produced Davido and Shizzi. The music video for the chat-topping single “Dami Duro” was released on January 8, 2012. It was shot and directed in Lagos by Clarence Peters, and was released during the Occupy Nigeria protests. According to the “Back When” crooner, he said “Dami Duro” was recorded in August 2011 and it later leaked after three months by some friends he sent it to for review.

On May 6, 2012, Davido released “Overseas” as a single off the album. The unfinished version of the song leaked prior to the official release. On September 28, 2012, he released the music video for “All of You”. The song was produced by Gospelondabeat. He released the music vidoes for “Ekuro”, “Gbon Gbon”, and “Feel Alright”attempting to promote the incoming album.

2013–2015:The Baddest promotional singles and Africa Rising campaign

In early 2013, Davido started working towards releasing his second studio album. On February 25, 2013, he released “Gobe” as the upcoming album’s lead single, a song produced by Shizzi. The video of the song was later released and it was a huge success as it was well-received. It was a beautiful song with a colorful video . In Gobe video, Davido is beaten up by thugs after winning a girl’s heart and following her home. The music video for the single was shot in South Africa by Godfather Productions. His second single “One of a Kind”, off his upcoming album was released on May 13, 2013 and was produced by Shizzi. The music video for “One of a Kind” was shot and directed in South Africa by Tebza of Godfather Productions. It visualizes a united Africa rich in culture and music.

The third single from the upcoming album is “Skelewu”, released on August 13, 2013. This song was a blast and it served as National anthem in many Nigerian household for years . It was also ranked 5th on the aforementioned list of the top 10 songs of 2013. As if that was not enough, it also peaked at number 1 on Afribiz’s Top 100 chart. A dance competition with a cash prize of $3000 (₦480,000) was staged by Davido days after the release of the song. Davido asked fans to upload videos of themselves dancing to “Skelewu” after he uploaded the instructional dance video onto YouTube . The winner of the competition was announced a week later.

On February 2, 2014, Davido released “Aye” as the fourth single from the upcoming album. The song was produced by T Spice. The music video for “Aye” was released on February 7, 2014, and was directed by Clarence Peters. The concept of the video owns that Davido is a poor farmer who falls in love with the prince’s love interest. He also released another song titled “Tchelete (Goodlife)” featuring South African duo Mafikizolo on April 30, 2014 under HKN Music imprint. This song was produced by Oskido and Shizzi.

In June 2014, Davido collaborated with Mi Casa, Lola Rae, Sarkodie, Diamond Platnumz and Tiwa Savage on a song for DSTV’s Africa Rising campaign, which was designed to inspire Africans to partake in community-based social investment projects. The music video was released on June 24, 2014, was shot and directed by South African production house Callback Dream. After announcing that he will be working with American rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill, he finally collaborated with Meek Mill on the song “Fans Mi”.

Endorsement Deals

Davido reportedly signed a ₦30 million endorsement deal with MTN. This news was reported by Nigerian Entertainment Today on April 6, 2012. This deal with MTN unveiled him as the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign for Nigerian youths.

Guinness Nigeria signed Davido to an endorsement deal. This news was reported by Pulse On October 24, 2013. As part of the endorsement deal with Guinness Nigeria , he performed at the Guinness World of More Concert alongside P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Chidinma, Waje and Tiwa Savage, among others.
