Clarence Abiodun Peters who is widely known as Clarence Peters, is a Nigerian music video director, filmmaker and cinematographer. The young and heavily beard man is the founder and CEO of Capital Dream Pictures, a firm that specialises in new media art, film, television, radio, and video production. Mr Peters is also the proud founder and CEO of Capital Hill Records, a record label Nigerian musicians like Chidinma, Tha Suspect, and Illbliss are signed unto.

Clarence Peters is one of the most popular names in Nigeria when things like music video shoting is being discussed. According to his biography, he is ranked 2nd on Channel O’s Top 10 Most Visionary Music Video Directors list. In year 1998, he was behind the Mobil-sponsored music video for a documentary on AIDS. He successfully directed 40 episodes of the TV series Everyday People.

He is the people’s favorite when it comes to directing of music video, he has worked with numerous Nigerian musicians including the likes of Darey, Durella, Wizkid, Phyno, Davido, Falz The BatGuy and many more.

Early Life And Education

The young man named Peter was birthed in Lagos Nigeria, he was born into a prominent family of Sir Shina Peters, a musician, and Clarion Chukwura, an actress. He is the result of the relationship her mother, Clarion Chukwura had with Nigerian musician Sir Shina Peters many years ago.

While he was growing up, his childhood ambition was to become a professional footballer but there was a twist of fate along the line which made him chose another career that has paid off. His mother Clarion had a brief chat with Daily Times of Nigeria website some time ago, she revealed that she almost aborted the talented boy while he was still in the womb, she later changed her mind because of her belief that Peters was the reincarnation of her father who she lost when she was 11 years old.

Education

Clarence Peters had his primary and high school education in Ikorodu Lagos. He obtained his primary education from BI primary school, and his secondary education from Government College Ikorodu. After obtaining his basic certificates, he worked at Alpha Visions for three years. He furthered at City Varsity, a film school in Cape Town, South Africa. He successfully graduated after majoring in Cinematography while studying at City Varsity.

After spending some years in Cape Town, South Africa, he returned to his father’s land Nigeria,he teamed up with a group of filmmakers to found the Alliance Film Company, which has rebranded as the Allied Film Company.

He stayed with the company for one years and established his own production company. Career Proper

He met Tha Suspect, a record producer and recording artist while he was still studying in High school. As months goes by they became very used to themselves and started a group. Peters established Capital Hill Records when he returned to Nigeria from South Africa. He and Suspect went on a search to look for a female artist who could rap and sing, Peter later signed Kel to his record label after being introduced to her by Terry tha Rapman.

Kel had a misunderstanding with Peters in September 2010 which later led to the termination of her recording contract. Meanwhile, she was able to release her debut studio album, The Investment, before leaving the label.

Controversies

A copyright infringement was levelled against Peters in January 2014 few days after the music video of Tiwa Savage’s “Eminado” was released. According to the claim, it was allegedly that Peter stole the vintage nature of the “Asinamali” , a video released by Tumi and the Volume to honour the artistic works of Seydou Keïta.

Responding to the allegation, Savage’s ex manager and ex husband, Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun, shed more light on the issue saying that they never knew that the video’s concept was adopted from another video, the copyright infringement thing came as a big surprise to them and everyone else who heard the news.
