Chidinma Ekile whose stage name is Chidinma is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who shot to stardom in 2010 after emerging the winner of the third season of “Project Fame West Africa” . The Nigerian music prodigy Chidinma Ekile who is simply known as Ms. Kedike rose to spot light following the release of the music video for her “Emi Ni Baller”  single, gracing her the title of the first female musician to peak at number 1 on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart. Following the inception of her music career, she released her first solo single “Jankoliko” featuring Sound Sultan.

She also went ahead to release her debut studio album titled “Chidinma”, which was released through the music platform Spinlet. The self-titled debut studio album spawn singles like “Jankoliko”, “Carry You Go”, “Kedike” and “Run Dia Mouth”. Her Chidinma album featured guest appearance from the finest Nigerian musicians like Sound Sultan, Tha Suspect, Olamide and Muna. She have earned several nominations as well as winning several awards including Best Female West African Act at the 2012 Kora Awards where she also performed her “Kedike” song.

Early Life, Background, Educational And Public Image

Chidinma Ekile who is widely known as “Miss Kedike” was born on the 2nd of May 1991 (age 26 Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State. She is the the sixth child in a family of seven children raised in Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State. Both of her parents are originally from Imo State. Before she partook in the third season of Project Fame West Africa, she briefly worked as a business promoter in Lagos. She official started singing at her early age when she was just 6 years old. He grew up in an environment where she had to always be on her best behaviour because her father doesn’t entertain nonsense as he was a strict disciplinarian. He joined her church choir at the age of 20 . She completed her primary and secondary school in Ketu prior to relocating to Ikorodu with her family.

Chidinma Ekile the Kekide singer is currently an alumna of University of Lagos where she is working very hard to earn a degree in sociology. Her initial intention was to study mass communication but fate had another plan programmed ahead of her. Chidinma initially declined her admission into the University of Lagos due to her advancement in the aforesaid competition. After winning the competition she decided to pursue education and she wasn’t given mass communication this time .Due to the fact that time was not longer on her side , she had no option than to accept the admission .

According to the singer in a recent chat with YNaija, she said that school has always been her thing right from the onset because she loves education so much that she was ready to give up anything for it. She has always taken education as a top priority in her life and her decision to enroll at Unilag was unavoidable. She also revealed that music wasn’t really part of her plan , but decided to dive into it after winning the MTN-sponsored Project Fame music competition. As some point , Chidinma decided to dye her which raised so many eye browns , a lot of people started tagging her as a “good girl gone bad”. While speaking on the issue in an interview with Daily Independent , she assured fans that nothing has changed about her except that she has upgraded financially.

Career, Project Fame And (2011–2012:Chidinma)

Before participating in the third edition of Project Fame West Africa, she had interest in a reality TV show that was instituted in 2008. She was strong persuaded by her childhood friend to take part in the show , she left her home in Ikorodu and went to the Ultima Studios, the venue for the show’s 2010 Lagos auditions. She was one of the 8,000 contestants that battled for the ultimate price . She was able to advanced to the Fame Academy round alongside 17 other contestants. Chidinma and the other contestants were coached by musical professionals for straight ten weeks . In the academy, they received voice coaches, inspirational words and get to meet with professional musicians and music business service providers who addressed them proceduraly .

After the long battle, Chidinma was announced as the winner of the competition on 26 September 2010 precisely. She won several prizes, including ₦2.5 million, a 2011 Toyota RAV4, and an album production deal . Things started getting better for her from that point and she also signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria two years later .

She started working on her upcoming album in the fourth quarter of 2012. Soon after, “Emi Ni Baller” was released featuring her fellow labelmates Tha Suspect and Illbliss  The song which was produced by Legendury Beatz peaked at number 7 on Vanguard’s list of the “Top 10 songs that made 2013”. She remix “Emi Ni Baller” featuring Wizkid released on the 22nd of February 2013. On 12 June 2013, CAPital Dreams Pictures released the music video for “Emi Ni Baller” shot and directed in the U.K by Clarence Peters. The singer also went ahead to release tracks like “Bless My Hustle” (featuring Phyno), “Kite” and “Jolly” as singles off the upcoming album.

Needless to say, “Bless My Hustle” was produced by Tha Suspect and “Kite” was produced by Del B. “Jolly” was produced by Wizboy. Chidinma released “Oh Baby” on 14 September 2013. She later released the The remix of “Oh Baby”, featuring Flavour N’abania, was released on 29 January 2014. The music video for “Oh Baby (You & I)” was released on 2 May 2014 and was directed by Clarence Peters and stars Ngozi Nwosu and OC Ukeje. Chidinma have worked with several top Nigerian producers including Cobhams Asuquo, Tee Y Mix, WazBeat, and Oscar Heman Ackah. Her “Jankoliko” song was released on February 22, 2011 featuring Sound Sultan.

On October 11, 2011, Chidinma released “Kedike”, the album’s third single. On October 11, 2011, she also released the album’s fourth single “Run Dia Mouth”. She has performed on several big stages including MTN Power of 10 Concerts in Makurdi on 9 September 2011 where he performed with Dr SID. She was also one of the supporting acts on the 2013 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour headlined by D’banj. She also performed at the Guinness World of More Concert on 3 November 2013 alongside P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Waje, Davido and Tiwa Savage, among others. The same year, she performed with Blackstreet at the Butterscotch Evening Experience, a concert held at the Eko Hotels and Suites . She also graced the stage at MTN Valentine Rave Party alongside Tiwa Savage, Mario and Sound Sultan.

She has performed on big stages in several countries across Africa, including The Republic of Benin, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea, Niger and Ghana. She has Accomplished a lot in her musicial career.

Personal Life And Scandal (Rumors)

In November 2013, the internet was on fire after a viral sèx tape of Chidinma’s look-alike surfaced and it was being shared on several platforms. Many believed Chidinma was the one in the sèx tape while others said it was her look-alike . Reacting to this rumour, the singer strongly denied it

“She said that while her fan base grew from the incident, she felt quite devastated”.

I Went Through Hell as a Child

Growing up wasn’t so easy. I grew up in Ketu, Lagos. I have six siblings and I’m the last. We all sing. I didn’t have everything I wanted as a child but it was comfortable enough. Both parents are from Imo state. I had both primary and secondary education in Ketu. I was almost writing my Post_UME when I went for project fame. My intention was to continue my education when I came back from Project Fame.
