He projected for the Governorship seat as a candidate of the Action Congress party, now known as the All Progressives Congress.
The humble politician succeeded Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on 14 April 2007, he officially became the Governor of Lagos state on 29 May 2007 . He was re-elected on 26 April 2011. Early Life And Education
Babatunde Fashola was born in Lagos on 28 June 1963. The widely loved politician is of Yoruba origin, from Lagos. Fashola is a graduate like many other top Nigerian politician, He attended Sunny Field Primary School, Adelabu Surulere, Lagos and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After completing his primary education, he proceeded to Birch Freeman High School, Surulere, Lagos and later moved to Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos State where he bagged his Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
After his primary and secondary school education, he gained admission to study Law in the University of Benin where he bagged a Bachelor of Laws (LLB ) degree in 1987.
He was officially called to the Nigeria Bar as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in November 1988 after completing the professional training programme at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos from 1987 and 1988. After being called to the Bar , he engaged in private law practice for couple of years, and his flair and excellence in a advocacy necessitated him for the position of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (S.A.N.).
As a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, he has been severally honoured with awards and certificates of merit including the Distinguished Alumnus Award conferred on him by the University of Benin Alumni Association in recognition of contributions to the Alumnus association and humanity. Fashola has also received other accolades including Lagos State public service club Platinum Award for outstanding contribution towards development.
Fashola has head different position since he launched his political career in November 1988. He was once the Chief of Staff to his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While he was the Chief of Staff , he was also appointed as the Honourable Commissioner to the Governor’s office. According to history, Fashola is the first man to hold both offices simultaneously.

He was sworn in as the Executive Governor of Lagos State in Nigeria on 29 May 2007 for a four-year tenure after defeating his opponent. During his tenure , he appointed Musiliu Smith who was the former Inspector General of Police head of the Lagos State Security council. The most loved Lagos state Governor was re-elected for a second tenure in the 2011 elections under the platform of the All Progressive Congress(APC).
